How To Mask Designs in Illustrator

Masking can be a very elusive technique to master in Adobe Illustrator. However it can be just as useful as it is elusive. Looking around on the Internet, it is hard to find a definitive tutorial on how to mask why you should use the technique. That is....until now thanks to The Black Axe.

First of all, masking is best used to play with the depth of a complex design. It gives the great appearance that the different layers in the artwork can move in and out within each other. When you look at some of the work by The Black Axe, you wonder how the design was accomplished in the first place. This video provides the insight into just how to do so with some of the features of their great artwork.

It is just an added bonus that design they're using was an actual working piece and a great example of how you can take a design that looks great and make it even greater. The finishing touches can put the real polish on a design and make it worthy to print.

All in all, great video and great technique.
