Why can’t screen printers print samples before an order is placed?
Printing samples is something that is very rarely done by printers in the screen printing industry before an order is placed. The reason for this is the large amount of upfront costs involved in setting a screen printing job up. This large upfront cost can make a single sample t-shirt cost as much or more than six printed t-shirts depending on the amount of colors printed in the design.
Without having the commitment of an order, all of the cost and risk is absorbed by the screen printer leaving the prospective buyer with no skin in the game. This can be the biggest cost associated with doing samples..the opportunity cost of committing materials and labor to chasing jobs that may not materialize.
