Why can’t screen printers print samples before an order is placed?
Printing samples is something that is very rarely done by printers in the screen printing industry before an order is placed. The reason for this is the large amount of upfront costs involved in setting a screen printing job up. This large upfront cost can make a single sample t-shirt cost as much or more than six printed t-shirts depending on the amount of colors printed in the design.
Without having the commitment of an order, all of the cost and risk is absorbed by the screen printer leaving the prospective buyer with no skin in the game. This can be the biggest cost associated with doing samples..the opportunity cost of committing materials and labor to chasing jobs that may not materialize. For this reason unfortunately it is not possible for most screen printers, including us here at You Design It, to offer a printed sample to customers.
However, the good news is that while a printed sample is not a realistic possibility, we can and do provide an electronic artwork proof showing a mock up of what the design will look like when it is printed. If you have created your design online in our design studio then we will print it to the specifications that you yourself have selected and the design you create serves as a mock up of what to expect for the final printed order. If you have your own artwork that you want to send to us, such as a company logo or other artwork file, then after the order is placed we will email you a proof showing a mock up of what the shirts will look like printed.
The artwork proof is as close as most screen printers are able to come to a printed sample. We realize that it is no substitution for an actual printed shirt, and it is not meant to be, but unfortunately since a printed sample is not possible that is the closest that we can come. As always if you have any questions or concerns we encourage you to contact us by phone or email.
