Does a heavier t-shirt cost more?
A heavier t-shirt typically does cost more than the standard weight t-shirts. For example, the Hanes Beefy T weighs in at 6.1 oz and is considered one of the more premium standard t-shirts. It most certainly cost more than their less expensive alternative Hanes ComfortSoft T weighing in at 5.2 oz. The same can be said for the Gildan Ultra Cotton versus its latter alternative the Gildan Heavyweight.
This general rule does not ring true in every possible case. For instance, performance wicking tees weigh much less and cost a lot more. Also, a premium brand like American Apparel may weigh less but cost just as much if not more than a premium heavier t-shirt.
Here t-shirts are characterized as feeling softer and being able to last longer during everyday wear and washing. The typical cost difference can range from one dollar to as much as four dollars.
